Pencil Beads
Transform a pencil — or colored pencil — into a gorgeous set of beads. Create colorful necklaces, bracelets, earrings, magnets and more.
Tip : Wear safety goggles and heavy-duty gloves when sawing. Kids can help decorate, but making the beads themselves should be left to the adults.
Materials
Pencils
Scrap wood board
Drill and small drill bit
Fine-toothed hacksaw
Fine-grit sandpaper
Jewelry beads or charms
Instructions
1. Hold pencil firmly against scrap wood, drill a hole, end to end, through pencil.
2. Saw ends of pencil off, leaving the hole centered on the new bead. Cut pencil into portioned lengths appropriate for bead size.
3. Rub bead edges along sandpaper until smooth.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 to create more beads.
