Auto Insurance Companies Offering Refunds
Allstate & Esurance
- Allstate and Esurance (an Allstate company) are offering a Shelter-In-Place Payback, which will result in most customers being reimbursed about 15% on their monthly premiums for April and May. This refund will be automatically returned to the original form of payment or applied as a credit to your account, depending on how you have your preferences set.
- Policyholders can also get free identity protection for the rest of the year through the Allstate app. U.S. residents can receive this benefit when they sign up in April or May, regardless of whether they’re already an Allstate customer.
- Auto, home and powersport insurance customers facing financial challenges can also request payment releif that delays payments for 60 days with no penalty.
- Allstate and Esurance will now automatically cover customers who use their personal vehicles to deliver food, medicine, and other goods for commercial purposes during the COVID-19 emergency period. This protection will be added to policies in all states for the duration of each state’s COVID-19 emergency order. No further action is required on your part.
Farmers
- Now through May 1st, Farmers Insurance is temporarily pausing policy cancellations due to non-payment. Policyholders will have until at least May 1 to make a mid-term payment, if one is due, and any unpaid balance will carry over to your next billing statement with no late fees or penalties.
- If you receive a notice that your policy is expiring and you need additional time to pay for a renewal, please contact Farmers at 1-888-327-6335 and your due date will be extended until at least May 1 with no late fees.
GEICO
- GEICO is giving a 15% credit to auto and motorcycle policyholders as their 6-month policies come up for renewal between April 8 and October 7, 2020. This credit will also apply to any new policies purchased during this period. Current policyholders don’t need to take any action to receive this credit and can expect to see it when their policy renews.
- Cancellation of coverage due to non-payment and policy expiration has been paused through at least April 30, 2020 or later as directed by your state. This pause is automatic for policyholders, and no further action is required.
Liberty Mutual
- Liberty’s personal auto insurance customers will receive a 15% refund on two months of their auto premiums as of April 7, 2020. Pending regulatory approval, these refunds will be automatically issued either by check or in the form of your most recent payment. No further action by customers is required.
- Liberty is also offering Payment Flexibility Options, including the suspension of late fees and a temporary pause on personal auto and home coverage cancellations due to non-payment. This grace period will last through May 22 or longer, as required by individual states.
- Liberty is also extending payment dates if needed. Please contact your insurer if you are interested in this option.
Shelter Insurance Group
- Shelter Insurance will be issuing payments to its policyholders that will amount to about 30% of their personal auto monthly premiums for the months of April and May.
- If a customer paid their premium automatically through a bank account, this refund will be deposited directly into their account whenever possible. Otherwise, a check will be mailed.
- The Shelter Insurance Group will also continue coverage when customers can’t pay their premiums. This policy extends to its subsidiaries as well, including AmShield Insurance, Haulers Insurance, and Say Insurance.
Travelers
- Travelers is giving U.S. personal auto insurance customers a 15% credit on their April and May premiums through its new Stay-at-Home Auto Premium Credit Program. The company will automatically credit customers’ accounts, and no further action is required by customers.
- Travelers is also offering billing relief to customers. They will work with individuals experiencing financial hardships to offer solutions based on each unique situation.
USAA
