Hawaii has launched a temporary residency program called “Movers and Shakas” to give out of state professionals a chance to experience the islands as contributing members of the community rather than tourists. Participants get free airfare in return for helping the state diversify its economy as it works to recover from the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Remote workers ages 18 and up can apply for the Movers and Shakas program now through December 15. Fifty people will be chosen from the first round of applicants to move to Hawaii within one month of being selected. Participants will be required to spend at least 30 consecutive days in the state.
