My Coupon Pet Peeves

I love using coupons, but sometimes it is just annoying. Have you ever run into any of these situations?

1. Clerk refuses to take a coupon(s)

I always try to avoid #1 by finding the "coupon friendly" cashier. This person is either a teenager or someone you are friends with. But sometimes you guess wrong and every coupon gets scrutinized. And then when they say the dreaded words "We can't accept this.", do you fight back or back down? Depending on what the coupon is for, I tend to back down. But if there is no logical reason why they are rejecting it, I speak up. Then usually the manager comes over, etc. etc. You have to decide if it's worth the hassle.

2. Coupons for 20 cents off (or less)

Recently I saw a Hunt's coupon for 20 cents off. I know doubled this is 40 cents but it's still annoying. What is this, 1975? 20 cents? To me, coupons that have any value are 50 cents and up. And of course I shop at double coupon stores to maximize the coupon.

3. Impatient shoppers behind you in line

Sigh. If you use coupons at the grocery store, I'm sure you've dealt with this. Those impatient people in line, who stare and quietly shove their groceries further up the belt? It is so annoying. I never apologize and I tend to ignore them. As long as my coupons are organized (I normally keep them in an envelope, never loose in my purse), it's worth it to me.

4. Internet coupons

I have a love/hate relationship with them. Coupons.com and other sites offer really great coupons. But my local Giant Eagle will not take them. It seems grocery stores are on the look-out for those who photocopy coupons and then try to get free products. The Internet coupons I have great success with are those for retail stores and restaurants. I rarely have a problem at those types of businesses.

5. Holiday Sunday papers

Typically, no coupons. :(

6. People who steal peelie coupons off products (or from inside packages) w/o buying the product

Have you ever heard of a great deal, gone to the store, only to find that someone literally stole the coupons off the packages? Or from inside the packages? Hard to believe, but this does happen.

What are your pet peeves about coupons?
