Grandparent's Day Gift Ideas- Sunday, Sept.7th

Grandparents’ Day is coming up on September 7. Here are some thoughtful gift ideas!

1.Plants, Herbs or Flowers: Last year, I sent my mom a rose bush. It was one of her favorite gifts because it will bloom every year!

2. Homemade Cards: Drawings, cards and art projects are creative ways for kids to keep in touch with Grandma and Grandpa!

3. iPad: It’s amazing to contact faraway family and friends with an iPad! We can Skype or Facetime, email and chat.

4. A Homemade Meal or Dessert: If you’re close enough, you can’t beat a homemade meal or treat. Janet, my mother-in-law, likes the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies I make. My dad likes brownies and homemade fudge. If you aren’t up to cooking (or baking), consider sending Mrs. Field’s or Cheryl’s cookies. I’ve ordered from both for my family and they loved them!

5. Gift Baskets: Put together a basket of your loved one’s favorite treats: beauty products, food or books. The ideas are endless!

6. Dinner Out: Getting out for a few hours is a nice treat, especially if your guest of honor is in a nursing home.

7. Thank You Notes Online: My son likes to send Nana little notes on Facebook. It’s a nice way for them to keep in touch.

8. Art Projects: Consider framing or making a scrapbook of your child’s artwork.

9. Kindle: Tablet readers store so many books. They’re great for the grandparent who wants all their books in one place, likes to travel or who would like the convenience of instant book delivery!

10. Gift Cards: Ask what their favorite stores are. But Amazon, Target or Walmart are always safe bets.

11. Magazine Subscription: Just like me, my mother and mother-in-law love to read magazines. It’s always fun to get a surprise magazine subscription in the mail.

12. Music: Many of my elderly relatives love listening to music. An iPod would make a nice gift!

13. Books: My bookworm mom loves to read so sending a few new books is always a treat for her.

14. Photos: I’ve made several photo collages with a mix of old and new photos, and my dad loves getting them in the mail to show his friends at the nursing home. Photo books are also a nice gift. Two of my favorite sites are Snapfish and Shutterfly.

15. Stationery and Stamps: My grandmother Esther loved to collect stamps. When she passed away 10 years ago, I inherited her stamp collection. I like going through it and remembering all the fun we had looking at the stamps.

16. Knitting or Crocheting Gear: My mom loves knitting, so she always appreciates yarn and other supplies as gifts.

17. Pet Care Supplies: Put together a box of treats, toys, gear and more.

18. Bird Feeders and Food: My mom loves feeding the birds and sending her a birdwatcher’s book or bird seed is something she enjoys.

I hope these ideas inspire you with your Grandparents’ Day (and year-round) gifts!
